Balance Board
The Balance Board was developed in collaboration with Tish Campbell as part of my internship at the Metropolitan Hospital Occupational Therapy Department, during the fall semester of 2007. It is a system developed to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of balance and weight bearing issues in patients recovering from strokes.
The most recent version consists of a sensor board which collects data using two force-sensing plates and transmits the data wirelessly, and a visual feedback box which indicates how weight is distributed between the plates.
A USB-connected wireless receiver board also allows for PC based applications to receive from the board in real time, including much more detailed information about weight distribution on the board than the display box.
I would like to thank Pinky Magbanua, Marianne Petit and John Schimmel for their guidance, help and support.
